Best Cordless Chainsaws UK

Cordless and battery mean the same thing, and this is the fastest-moving corner of the market. An 18V saw lives in the shed next to the drill; a 36V or 40V saw will fell a small tree.

Before comparing specifications, settle the battery question. The pack is often more than half the price, so if you already own Makita LXT, Ryobi ONE+, DeWalt XR, Bosch 18V or Einhell Power X-Change batteries, the bare-tool version of that brand is usually the cheapest good saw you can buy.

Voltage, amp hours and brushless

Voltage sets the ceiling on power. Amp hours are the fuel tank, not the engine: a bigger pack runs longer, not harder. Brushless describes the motor, and on a chainsaw it is worth paying for, because you get more cuts per charge and more torque with the chain buried in a log.

What a charge really gives you

Count trigger time, not hours. An 18V saw with a 2.0Ah pack cuts for roughly fifteen to twenty minutes, which is a lot of pruning and not much firewood. A 5.0Ah pack on a 36V saw gets through a decent pile of logs. Hardwood, a dull chain and a loose chain all shorten it sharply.

If you plan to work for an afternoon, budget for two batteries and a fast charger from the start.

They still need bar oil

No fuel to mix, but the bar and chain oil reservoir still has to be kept full. Most cordless saws empty the oil tank in about the time it takes to flatten two packs, so check it whenever you swap a battery.

How this list is put together

The table above is generated from our review database every time this page loads. It is not a hand-written list that quietly goes out of date: if a model is discontinued or its buy link dies, it drops out automatically, and anything newly added to the relevant section appears without this page being touched.

Specifications come from the manufacturer or the retailer listing rather than our own bench testing, and we say so plainly. Where we hold a score it reflects how the saw compares with others at the same bar length and price, not an absolute verdict.

Prices are deliberately not printed here. They move weekly, and a stale price is worse than none, so the buy links take you to the current one.
