Best Husqvarna Chainsaws

Husqvarna is the other name people say when they say Stihl, and the range is simpler to navigate than it looks: a number, sometimes a suffix, and the higher the number the bigger the saw.

Unlike Stihl, Husqvarna does sell through Amazon in the UK as well as through dealers, so several models have a live buy link. A dealer still gets the saw built, fuelled and warranty registered, which is worth something on a petrol machine.

How the numbers work

120, 130, 135: homeowner petrol saws, 35 to 40 cm bars, for garden work and a few cubic metres of firewood a year. 400 series: mid-range all-rounders, the sensible choice if you cut every winter. 500 series and up: professional saws built for daily use. i suffix: battery saws on Husqvarna’s BLi packs. T suffix: top-handle saws for trained climbers.

X-Torq and AutoTune

X-Torq is their engine design, which cuts fuel use and emissions compared with a conventional two-stroke. AutoTune, on the bigger saws, adjusts the carburettor itself for altitude, fuel and a dirty air filter, which removes most of the reason people used to carry a screwdriver.

Running one

Husqvarna petrol saws run a 50:1 two-stroke mix. Keep bar and chain oil topped up, and expect to replace the air filter and spark plug once a season on a saw in regular use. Chains are standard Oregon-compatible sizes, so files and replacements are easy to find.

How this list is put together

The table above is generated from our review database every time this page loads. It is not a hand-written list that quietly goes out of date: if a model is discontinued or its buy link dies, it drops out automatically, and anything newly added to the relevant section appears without this page being touched.

Specifications come from the manufacturer or the retailer listing rather than our own bench testing, and we say so plainly. Where we hold a score it reflects how the saw compares with others at the same bar length and price, not an absolute verdict.

Prices are deliberately not printed here. They move weekly, and a stale price is worse than none, so the buy links take you to the current one.
