On paper the BLACK+DECKER CS2040-GB Chainsaw Corded Review comes down to a 40 cm (16 in) bar and mains electric power.

The usable cutting length is 40 cm, which puts this saw squarely on timber up to around 35 cm. The working rule is to keep the bar about 5 cm longer than the wood you cut most.

The specification lists a 2000W motor, a 240V battery platform, a listed weight of 5.5 kg.

It is fitted with a chain brake, tool-free chain tensioning, low-kickback chain.

A mains saw gives the most cutting power per pound spent, as long as the work happens within reach of a socket. Use a heavy-duty extension lead fully unwound, and plug into an RCD. It is a homeowner grade machine, intended for occasional use rather than daily work.

Specifications are as published by the manufacturer or the retailer listing rather than measured by us. Always check the figures on the product page before buying.

FAQs

Does it come with oil?

This is not supplied with oil, but you can purchase it separately on Amazon, or from your local DIY store. Make sure you only buy chainsaw oil, some people say you can use cooking oil, NOT a good idea, and the correct oil isn’t expensive anyway. Just to say this a good bit of kit, works well for me, wish I had bought one earlier. Hope this info helps, happy sawing!

how long does it take to sharpen and how often do you need to do it?

That depends on the wood you cut. If you cutting through softwood it should stay sharp for ages if you cutting through hardwood it’s gonna get dull quicker. I probably got through about Three tonnes of Pine before I started to think about sharpening it.

Is there a limit to the length of extension lead you can use. I.e before it loses some power?

I have not encountered any problems and have used a hundred-foot extension
